The lads are back for another action packed episode of Hold the BackPage, though one of them is feeling a little under the weather.
Presenter Ciarán Ó Raghallaigh is joined by the soon to be departing Neil Ahern to discuss all the weekend’s action both domestically and across the channel. They share a moment in memory of football legend who passed tragically this week, and also give a nod to an Irishman who made his rather unconventional mark on the Premiership.
Shelbourne manager Alan Matthews is on the line to discuss the League of Ireland Premier Division title race which reaches its conclusion this weekend when either Shamrock Rovers or Bohemians will be crowned champions. Matthews also talks about his own side who are bidding for a place in the First Division playoffs when they take on fellow promotion hopefuls Waterford United at Tolka Park.
There’s a tale of times gone by when Charlie Tully Jr., son of former Glasgow Celtic star Charlie Sr., recounts the history of the Belfast Celtic Football club which now lives on through the Belfast Celtic Society. The group will take to the field to face Linfield in Windsor Park this weekend, and Charlie speaks fondly of a time when the club was a real force in Irish soccer before it ceased to exist in 1948.
Paddy Power’s Chris McWilliams is back to discuss the very well received Tip Off! competition which will this week focus on the huge derby between Newcastle United and Sunderland, and you can enter by leaving your predictions for the winning team, score, first scorer and minute of the first goal in the comments section below.
