Well, it didn’t take £9million goalkeeper Simon Mignolet acquaint himself with the Liverpool fans. Any fears over his ability to replace much-loved Pepe Reina were put to bed with a late second-half penalty save from Jon Walters.
After one or two flaps earlier in the game, the Belgian appeared to be showing some league debut jitters with his back to the Kop, including a clearance kick that was nearly blocked down on his six-yard box. But Mignolet proved his worth as he got down to his right to block away the Irishman’s spot kick, before getting up and getting a thigh to the follow-up.
Anfield erupted, and as can be seen in the below image – the players couldn’t hold back their pats of gratitude to the ‘keeper, with even Steven Gerrard jumping in on the action. The work wasn’t done however, as Kolo Toure quickly got back to business and organized his defence in what was a pleasing debut for the defender.
