A poor international window for the Republic of Ireland clumintated in a 1-0 loss to Wales at the Aviva Stadium last night.
Martin O’Neill’s side came into the game on the back of a dour 0-0 draw with Denmark at the same venue and showed signs of a more positive approach early on.
However, it was Wales who netted the only goal of the game just before the hour mark when Harry Wilson’s free kick deceived Irish goalkeeper Darren Randolph and found the net.
Ireland huffed and puffed for the remainder of the game but couldn’t muster an equaliser and now sit with just one point from their three games so far.
For the Irish management and squad, there’s some soul searching to do now ahead of next month’s final Group 4 game away to Denmark.
