Meier certainly would offer something different to the national team – but surely there’d be uproar. One graceful extreme to the graceless other? To give it some spin, I’d suppose it would be classed as Plan B. The current Plan B with Mario ‘the cork’ Gomez certainly doesn’t work.

And I was just testing by noting that Fenin is Austrian ;-) He and Harnik look alike, and share a forename, hence my Freudian slip!

I agree with you that Korkmaz has big potential. I had the same thought when watching him at Euro 2008. His injury record has undoubtedly limited his impact so far. But this could truly be his season.

On a different note, it’s not beyond the realms of possiblity that Alex Maier could get a call-up for Germany. He brings a different dimension to the table than all the Özil-Troche-Marin-Kroos-Reus etc. small dribbling types.

Oh, and Fenin is Czech ;-)
