I dont believe thats completely what article was trying to say Shane, but i agree. Reading some peoples comments on other sites of "it was the best holiday i ever had" sums it up really. Plenty of people were only away for a party and that was exemplified by our supreme leader John Delaney.

Can anyone be proud of or legislate for the behaviour of Delaney in Poland? He showed he has some neck by partying with the fans when the product he was supplying on the pitch was in shambles (like the FAI) and this neck will only abdicate his highly paid postion if his head were to roll. He has such an ego that he denies LoI fans freedom of speech and fines clubs for fans chanting their disapproval of his regime.

The fans need to make themselves heard Not with their drunken sing-song but with their feet. The only way to oust this (ego)man(iac) is for the fans to start boycotting matches, rallying and protesting against the autocratic FAI. Bonuses for Qualification to another major tournament seem far distant, based on our performances and difficulty of our forthcoming WCQ group, so with income dwindling the FAI will fail to pay back the massive debt incurred by the rebuild of Lansdowne.

Trapattoni isn't a 4-4-2 manager. In fact, he has played it very little in his career. His favoured formation, but his own admission, is 3-5-2. I think that while Keane is right that we should go to tournaments looking to win them, it's not like we were at the Euro's with Noel King or Eoin Hand. We were there with one of the most decorated managers in history. We just had a very slow, old and technically deficient team. Age is one factor, youth and league coaching is another. Trapattoni's formation and tactics, though, are not. Tactics only add about 10% to a team, 25% at most. The skill of the players and their game intelligence are the most important factors, and the national coach isn't responsible for that. I daresay that if Trapattoni had set the team out with a high pressure 4-3-3, the scores would have been pretty much the same, if not worse. Why? Because the players are not at as high a level as people think (even the McCarthy's, Ireland's, Reids and McClean's). The big test is the WC14 qualifiers. If he changes the squad selection, then we'll all know that he recognized the problems but stayed loyal to his players for one last hurrah. If he keeps largely the same squad, we probably won't qualify.
