Duff to return for Montenegro clash

REP IRELAND V GEORGIA

Damien Duff has returned to training with the Republic of Ireland squad today after a calf injury kept him out of the weekend’s game with Italy.

The winger’s availability for Wednesday’s final qualifier is a boost for coach Giovanni Trapattoni who is without the services of the suspended Glenn Whelan as Montenegro visit Croke Park.

“Damien Duff is with us and he said to me the injury has gone,” said Trapattoni.

There has been speculation that the Italian will tinker with his team as Shay Given, Aiden McGeady, Keith Andrews, Paul McShane and Leon Best are all currently on a one yellow card and another would rule them out of the first leg of the playoffs.

If Given is chosen he will win his 100th international cap, as will teammate Kevin Kilbane.
