Wolves have confirmed that Irish international Kevin Doyle will remain on the sidelines due to a hernia problem which has hampered his preseason.

The striker underwent a minor operation on the injury a few weeks ago and is still not up to full speed.

“Kevin will be training this week but probably not in full training, and that will be a big plus for us,” said Wolves manager Mick McCarthy.

“He might be fit for the start of the season, but I don’t think it’s likely he’ll be fully fit. He’ll be fit when he’s fit.

“It’s impossible for him to be at the same level as everyone else. He needs games.”

Doyle will also miss Ireland’s upcoming friendly with Australia in Limerick on August 12.
