Concentrating on the league

Dumped out of the Fantasy Cup at the second hurdle, Ruining Football now just have the league to focus on with a double gameweek meaning there are big points up for grabs.

The Fantasy Cup is essentially a lottery. That might sound like the bitter musings of someone who just lost to a team 1.5 million places below them in the overall rankings, but it’s true.

The game itself is essentially one big gamble, but there can be some sort of tactic employed over the course of a season. For a once off cup game it’s all to do with luck on the day, and as a result there are high placed teams being dumped out by sides with inactive managers.

Obviously it would have been interesting to stay in as long as possible but there won’t be any sleep lost and we move on.

Joe Hart has impressed all season in goal for Birmingham and contributed 11 points to a total of 52 points, but he will drop to the bench this week in favour of Thomas Sorensen as Stoke have two games. In a bold move, Sorensen has also been given the captaincy. Both matches are at the Britannia Stadium, and two clean sheets would mean at least 24 points.

Cesc Fabregas’ stunning cameo against Aston Villa provided 14 vital points but it has come at a cost with the Arsenal skipper now set to be sidelined again. He remains in the team for the double gameweek, but is unlikely to feature.

I had two transfers to use and have elected to bring in Arsenal duo Armand Traore and Abou Diaby for Luke Young and Lee Bowyer. Diaby has been in superb form lately and will hopefully continue that this week.

The double gameweek means Gary Cahill, Clint Dempsey, Thomas Sorensen, and Ryan Shawcross also have two fixtures, though the latter is currently injured.

Dider Drogba plays his final game before departing for the African Cup of Nations, and it is highly likely that Wayne Rooney will take his place in the squad for the next gameweek, though Carlos Tevez is also being heavily considered.

As hoped, Darren Bent hit the back of the net in Gameweek 18, but Fernando Torres was a massive disappointment as captain. Had he contributed even an assist then we would have progressed in the cup.

The team currently sits in 22,040th place out of a total of 2,208,912 teams.
