Christian Atsu signs for Chelsea, immediately loaned out

by Kevin Coleman

I don’t know what it is, but players love taking a wage from Chelsea’s accounts and playing their football elsewhere. The Ghanaian winger will join Vitesse on a season-long loan deal, joining a long list of Chelsea players who have been loaned out to other European clubs.

The 21-year-old has been linked to Liverpool and Tottenham amongst others, but has opted for Stamford Bridge for a fee of around £3.5million. Considering their wealth of attacking options, it’s very unlikely to see him ever breaking into the starting eleven.

He confirmed his move on Twitter today, posting a photo of himself with a Chelsea shirt.

Gael Kakuta, Patrick van Aanholt and Lucas Piazon are also on loan at the Eredivisie club, while Oriel Romeu, Marko Marin and Thibaut Courtois are all playing in the Spanish league this season.

we rarely pay wages of on loan players and often charge a loan fee. this is a very good investment 4 the future 4 a player who wood have cost 5-6m if his contract was longer than the yr left. chelsea have been doin fantastically well with their buy ‘em young and cheap – look at de bruyne and courtois – worth 4x wot we paid 4 them!

  2. Thanks for the clarification, I find it hard to believe Vitesse are paying the majority of those players’ wages however.
