Chelsea have completed the signing of Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic on a four-year contract for a fee of €1.75 million.

The 21 year old had been playing for FC Kosice and was previously on trial with Middlesbrough late last year.

“I know a lot about Chelsea, I have been following them,” he told the club’s official website.

“I play together with Branislav (Ivanovic) in the national team and have spoken to him about Chelsea. The first time I met him to play in the national team I asked a couple of questions.”

Matic believes he has a lot to offer to the club is looking forward to the challenge of the Premiership.

“I am a central midfielder, and I know I am not well known but I have physical power and I am a quite technical, left-footed player,” he said.

“Since the age of 18 I have been at Kosice and before that I had played in the youth team of Red Star Belgrade.”

He has played twice for the Serbian national team.
