Championship Round 21 Review

After another round of Npower Championship action, it’s time to take a look back at the weekend of football. The weekend’s featured matches are Derby v Bristol City and Barnsley v Ipswich.

Derby 2-1 Bristol City

After Bristol’s unbeaten run was ended by Middlesbrough last week it looked as though they could get back to winning ways against a Derby side who had gone from fifth to fifteenth since the start of the season. Bristol City seemed the better side early on but Derby came back with Ball scoring the winner.

Derby keeper, Frank Fielding, denied a Nicky Maynard strike in what was the first real chance of the game. However, it took until the fifty-sixth minute for the game to see its first goal as Albert Adomah assisted Woolford for Bristol to give them a 1-0 lead.

Derby’s comeback came when Bryson tapped in his fourth goal of the season and just minutes later, Callum Ball scored the winner for the hosts.

Barnsley 3-5 Ipswich

It was goals galore at Oakwell as in-form Barnsley took on struggling Ipswich. Barnsley dominated the first half but an incredible comeback from Ipswich recovered them and it meant they avoided an eighth straight loss.

Barnsley were awarded a penalty when Drinkwater was taken down in the box. Davies scored the penalty to give Barnsley the lead. But a chance for Davies later on in the half was missed after the rebound from his initial shot was fumbled and cleared away by the Ipswich defence. Vaz Te headed the ball in for Barnsley’s second giving them a 2-0 lead.

Keith Andrews inspired the Ipswich comeback with an early second-half volley from the edge of the box which narrowed the gap to one point. Andrews scored his second with a header from a Cresswell cross.

Two more goals followed from Collins and Chopra gave Ipswich a two point lead. Scotland tapped in another Cresswell cross to rub salt in the wounds of Barnsley. The hosts scores a late consolation but Ipswich took the three points.
