Can Arsene Wenger end the drought and win the Premier League this year?

by Back Page Football

This is starting to be a traditional question we ask just before Xmas. Something like ‘What are you going to do for New Year’s Eve’ or ‘Are you going to take any holidays this festive seasons’. Once again the Gunners look in great shape but will it finally last until the end?

We are most likely going to witness one of the most exciting Premier League campaigns since the season when Manchester City have won the title in the last round, or to be exact in the last second of their match against QPR.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are currently sitting in the top of the table after eleven rounds played, but Arsene Wenger and Arsenal have been very close to join them.

The squad from The Emirates has collected 24 points so far, only two less than the table leaders and there is no doubt they will represent a serious contender for the trophy until the end.

The bookmakers are currently offering 13/2 rate for The Gunners to win the league, while their chances to finish top 4 are 4/9.

The situation would have probably been slightly different if Arsenal took all three points from The North London Derby played a couple of days ago, but unfortunately for their fans that game ended as a draw, ending great streak of three consecutive victories against Reading, Sunderland and Ludogorets.

Premier League matches will be on hold until 19th November because of World Cup Qualifiers, so Arsene Wenger and his boys will have a lot of time to prepare for a big match at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

It is very interesting to mention that the majority of bookmakers at this moment are offering identical 13/8 odds for both home and away victories.

The last time Arsenal have celebrated an away victory against The Red Devils was in March 2015.

Even though the start of the new term wasn’t great for them, Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez have been on fire lately, scoring a total of 11 goals so far in the Premier League.

There is no doubt Jose Mourinho will have to figure out the best way to mark these two players in order to avoid another shocking defeat in derby matches this season.
