Ray,

Thanks for the comment. Agreed that it is not his typical role but when he was brought in it was mentioned that the role of deep-lying playmaker a la Xavi or Gareth Barry could be an option. If Dalglish decides to go 4-2-3-1 it would maximize his talent on the pitch if Aqua could play in a holding role with Carroll up top, Suarez and Kuyt on the wings, Gerrard in the centre, maybe Adam as the other holding player or Meireles if he stays.

Lack of offers from Italy, Dalglish's and John W Henry's recent comments, general talent and a desire to get a return on their investment

Sorry Andrew but Aquilani does not play deep and never has done and will not fill the deep lying playmaker role, watch how he's played over the years for Roma, LFC and Juve last season and his game is about getting forward and knitting passes through to the front men..He rarely comes deep(although he always wants the ball) to collect a pass..He comes alive in the final third and find spaces in between the lines..

There aren't that many deep lying play makers about with the quality necessary to dictate the play, Ever Banega, David Pizarro, Andrea Pirlo are some of them but Xabi Alonso and Guardiola before him were the pick of the bunch..In his day Jan Molby was a fine exponent of knowing when to sit deep and pick the right pass and when to support the wide men and bring others into play etc..

What makes you think Aquilani will be at LFC next season?
