Baines should be first choice for England in my opinion. While Ashley Cole is undoubtedly a better defender than Baines, Cole has always run out of ideas when he’s got anywhere near the opposition box. England don’t lack for right sided attackers but do down the left and that’s why Baines should start to get chosen over Cole. I do disagree with your evaluation of Gibbs and Bertrand. Neither in the same class as Baines and have nowhere near the same end product.

He has been BY A MILE better than Ashley Cole for the past two seasons. The only thing – I repeat, the ONLY thing, that stops him from being England’s first-choice is playing for Everton and not a rich club.
