David Beckham’s Los Angeles Galaxy will take on Real Salt Lake in the MLS Cup final next week in Seattle after both sides were victorious in their respective semi finals.
The Galaxy overcame Houston Dynamo by two goals to nil after extra time thanks to strikes from Greg Berhalter and Landon Donovan, while their opponents upset the Chicago Fire on penalties in the other game.
“We still haven’t won anything,” Beckham said.
“We want to win next week but reaching it was the biggest thing. We’ve done that, done the hard work and this team deserves it.”
The Galaxy have gone from having the worst record in the league in 2008 to being on the verge of claiming a title, but skipper Donovan is refusing to get carried away.
“We’re excited but we know we’ve got one more to go,” he said.
“What a great game, couldn’t ask for more, except for the lights going out but other than that it was a great night and now we go to Seattle next week.”
Next week’s final will take place at Seattle’s Qwest Field, and the MLS have had to open another tier of the stadium after the first 36,000 tickets sold out before the finalists were even known.
