Atletico Madrid make loan offer for Juan Mata

by Kevin Coleman

Reports are surfacing that Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has offered to take Juan Mata on loan for the season.

With the arrival of Willian, and having played a minimal part in Chelsea’s opening two games, it seems as though the Spanish midfielder is dispensable – despite a fantastic two seasons at the club.

Irish La Liga writer Garreth Nunn heard from the horse’s mouth that an offer has been made:

Seeing Juan Mata move will be a great shock to the Premier League considering his terrific performances since arriving from Valencia, however if Jose Mourinho doesn’t favour him a loan move back to La Liga will be best for both parties.

Atletico Madrid have had a blistering start to the season, winning two from two and scoring eight goals.

When asked earlier tonight but a reporter from Marca, Simeone was cagey in his response and didn’t confirm nor deny that an offer has been made.

“You are all very well informed, and know lots of things that I have not told you. We will keep working in these last days of the market — there could be many movements, in and out.”
