Bundesliga SUCKS. I hate the league. They are FUCKING overrated. Just because they do well in the secondary league (Europa league) doesn't mean they are better. They do poorer in Serie A in the Champions League. What a problem Fifa should fix.

i think the difference will be in how seriously the italian teams take the EL.

the two milan teams will almost always be in CL, and advance to the rd of 16. the third will be hit and miss, especially until roma gets sorted out.

hard to see that changing b/c the battle for 4-10 is so tight that these teams can't fight on two fronts. we'll see.

Agreed. That 'Big Four' point is the key. If Bundesliga remains unpredicable & Serie A's top three remains stable then regaining the place is possible, otherwise as you say, the German league will more likely overtake Spain than fall back into 4th place. Thank you both for reading & taking time to comment.

Yes I agree with Frank since the Bundesliga teams took advantage when the Europa League (ridiculously) offered as many co-efficient points as the CL. Now it is a little harder for Serie A teams to do the same.

Bizzarely finishing 3rd in the CL group stages was and still is often better co-efficient wise, than finishing 1st or 2nd if the other team gets knocked out straight away. Even with the 5 point bonus coming in, Fiorentina were still "worse" than Liverpool in Europe last season, despite knocking them out!

But I guess as far as UEFA are concerned there have to be some incentives to winning the EL. Sevilla have certainly profited from easier CL groups due to their huge co-efficient from their two UC wins, tho that obviously wasn't much use when they messed up their play-off.

Anyway the best hope for Serie A is that the Bundesliga continues to be as unpredictable as this season. The likes of Hannover, Mainz or Freiburg are probably not gonna do much in Europe, and as they have no experience would face a decent side in CL play-offs if they finished 4th.
Of course Bayern will probably finish fourth and ruin that, so it's best that Serie A just focuses on sorting itself out.

So realistically, given that it's measured over five years, and German teams will now have scored higher the past 4 seasons, it'll be another four years at best before it turns around. However if a "big 4" type situation develops in Germany, it could be a lot longer, and it might be La Liga that Serie A needs to compete with...

The bonus points will make it easier for the Bundesliga to defend their 4th CL spot IMO.

You seem to think that Serie A will continue to have 3 teams in the CL k.o. stages. But once Italy has only has 3 CL spots they will be happy to get 3 teams into the group stages.

The Italian league will miss out on money and it could have a destabilizing effect on top teams in Italy. In Germany, on the other hand, the 4th CL spot will bring extra money and lead IMO to stability at the top.
