Yeah, I’m mindful about Rijkaard, but I just didn’t have time to fit it in with the flow of the piece. Sorry.

But, a quote from Messi regarding Rijkaard which I love is: “I’ll never forget the fact that he launched my career, that he had confidence in me while I was only sixteen or seventeen.”

Main point was that Messi, and all great players, have had a lot of support throughout their time, and that’s generally when they’ve most prospered.

But one huge omission.

Rjikard was the one who brought Messi out and nurtured him onto 1st team.
Pep certainly had made him into the phenomenon that he is currently, BUT Rjikard was the one who cushioned his arrival and its not small thing, as Giovanni and Bojan found out.
