Something to make you feel old, Alan McLoughlin’s strike to send the Republic of Ireland to the 1994 World Cup is 20 years old today.
Windsor Park was the venue for the game against Northern Ireland on 17 November 1993, and Jimmy Quinn’s goal had the hosts up 1-0.
With the Republic needing a result from the game to finish as group runners up to Spain, McLoughlin etched his place in the nation’s history by firing past Tommy Wright in the 76th minute.
Ireland finished level on points with Denmark in the group but qualified having scored more goals.
